Mark Lewin
Violin

Mark Lewin (*2005) began his musical education at the age of four, receiving his first violin lessons from Tamara Preschepenko, who taught him until 2015.

From 2015 onward, Mark studied at the Julius Stern Institute of the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK), where he refined his skills under the guidance of Prof. Bernhard Hartog. At the same time, he took private lessons with the internationally renowned violinist Prof. Dora Schwarzberg. Mark also attended masterclasses with Schwarzberg and other distinguished teachers, including Michael Erxleben and Roeland Gehlen, and participated in the Hope Academy led by Daniel Hope.

Mark’s exceptional talent has been recognized in numerous competitions. In 2018, he was awarded 3rd prize at the Grumiaux International Violin Competition in Brussels. The following year, he won 1st prize at the Flame Competition in Paris and achieved the highest score at Germany’s national competition, “Jugend musiziert.” In 2020, he won the International Josef Micka Violin Competition, where he was named “Overall Competition Winner.” In 2021, Mark was the only string player to reach the finals of the prestigious “Concertino Praga” competition.

His success in competitions has led to numerous invitations for solo concerts and appearances on international stages. A career highlight was his performance as a soloist with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Vahan Mardirossian at the Rudolfinum in Prague in September 2021, where he performed the violin concerto by Jean Sibelius. That same year, he embarked on a solo tour as part of the South Bohemia Festival and Concertino Praga, performing in several cities across the Czech Republic.

Mark has also served as the 1st concertmaster of the Konzerthaus Orchestra and works closely with the National Youth Orchestra.

Mark plays a very fine violin by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume, Paris c. 1840, crafted after the “Viotti” by Antonio Stradivari—a generous loan by a member of the Stretton Society.
