Alexander Warenberg
Violoncello

[...] Warenberg’s mastery of the instrument gave him the freedom to communicate sarcastic passages while never forgetting the lyricism that lies beneath agitation. An artist on the grow, remember the name!

Alexander Warenberg’s talent was discovered early. At the age of eight, the Dutch cellist was already studying at the Sweelinck Academy for the Highly Gifted at the Conservatory and later at the Barenboim-Said Academy in Berlin. The young musician has already won a number of prestigious prizes. At the National Cello Competition Amsterdam in 2016, he was awarded both 1st prize and the audience prize. He won further first prizes at the Britten Concours in the Netherlands in 2011, the Antonio Janigro International Cello Competition in Croatia in 2012 and the Prinses Christina Concours in the Netherlands in 2016. In 2022 he took part in the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels.

Alexander performs as a soloist and chamber musician on international stages and at festivals with renowned orchestras. He has already performed several times at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, at the Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam and took part in the Verbier Festival Academy in 2017. He is also a scholarship holder of the VandenEnde Foundation and the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein.

Alexander plays a rare and important violoncello by Alessandro D’Espine (Torino, ca. 1830), known as the “ex Louis Feuillard, ex Paul Tortelier”, a generous loan by a member of the Stretton Society.
